The Vietnam Free & Open Source Software Club officially established(its name is Vietnam Free & Open Source Software Association - VFOSSA) with consensus of opinion of organizers which are operating in open source field. For example, HanoiLUG, Ubuntu-vn, NukeViet, HueLUG...
VFOSSA will take open source software become common in social, use the power and knowlegde to realize aspirations of information technology. It was admitted to becomes a member of Vietnam Association for Information Processing (VAIP). The club votes Nguyen Hong Quang who is chair of the Vietnam Free & Open Source Software Association.

VAIP has organized the National Congress Seventh with the consent of the Ministry of home affairs, the Ministry of information and communications. The meeting took f-rom 8 a.m to 5 p.m on Sunday, 4 December, 2011 at Sofital Plaza hotel, 01 Thanh Nien Street, Ha Noi. VFOSSA has se-lected Truong Anh Tuan(iWay company), Nguyen The Hung(VINADES company/NukeViet community) and Nguyen Hong Quang(Chair of VFOSSA) to attend the National Congress Seventh.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
The Vietnam Free & Open Source Software community was beginning to take shape early f-rom the late 90s of last century together development of Information Technology & Media and IT community. In fact, the free & open source software was not common with user in the world at that period. However, the open source has developed gradually to become friendly with many users. Open source software propagated in VietNam information technology community, especially at the universities.

F-rom 2007 to 2012, there are many the different open source community was born. They are became more professional and larger size. They has attracted thousands of users. For example, NukeViet community with Content Management System product  which  took in the third award of Vietnamese Talent Contest 2011 and have a user community include 25.000 members. Beside the developments of community, many companys in open source field which was established: Vietsoftware, Asianux VN, iWay Vietnam, VINADES, NetNam, CngTT&NDS (NISCI) in HaNoi, HueSoft in Hue city, iNet Solutions Ho Chi Minh city…

The VietNam free & open source software community is very active to participate in the activities of VAIP. For example, give the open source content exam for Olympic Students of universities every years, organize Summer Creative competition f-rom 2009 to present. We also received support and sponsorship of companies such as Intel Corp., Companies NetNam, Misa, Vietsoftware, iWay Vietnam, SchoolNet, iNet Solutions, VINADES, Viamisoftware, NISCI Institute.

The free and open source software has became a growing trend in the world. It is bringing benefits for Vietnam at present. The government has issued policies to apply the open source in schools and the administrative agency of state.

The numbers and events have reported above to indicate that the free & open source software community had a new development. It has became an important part with VietNam information technology community. VFOSSA are very proud when were became a member of VAIP.
